Coronavirus Update

In the United States, recovered cases and immunization campaigns are making quick progress, although still the number of cases is too high. Scientists continue to study the virus and its behavior before and after vaccination, as well as people who have shown immunity to the virus or side effects to the vaccine. We are all still working to provide a Coronavirus update in different fields.

Current number of cases

Coronavirus cases in the U.S. rise up to 33,542,128. From that number, we can count 596,836 deaths and 26,549,871 recovered patients. The global number of cases is currently 160,238,079 according to the information provided by worldmeters.

These numbers are still high, but they are lowering faster and faster as the vaccination campaign moves forward.

Update on Vaccines

About the vaccines, experts can comfortably say that they are safe, effective and have minimal risk. The general recommendation is to acquire the vaccine in all cases, even if you already had COVID-19.

There are currently three authorized COVID-19 vaccines, which are recommended for use in the U.S. There are the two-dose vaccines: Pfizer BioNTech, and Moderna, and there is the one-dose vaccine from Johnson&Johnson/Janssen vaccine. All three vaccines are safe and reduce the risk of severe illness. To receive the most protection, you should receive the recommended doses of the vaccine you acquire. Currently a lot of people are slowly going back to their normal activities after two weeks of being vaccinated.

Secondary effects of the vaccine are being studied; most people only get light flu-like symptoms that go away in a couple of days. Vaccines are new, and it is normal to have a lot of questions right now. If you want to clear your doubts, you can call FORMÉ Medical Center at 914 723 4900. We have the best team of healthcare providers who can explain everything related to the vaccines.

In the United States, there are at least 153,986,312 people who have already received one dose of the vaccine and at least 117,647,439 people who are considered fully vaccinated. This means that already 35.4% of the country’s population is safer now, and these numbers increase every day. From that percentage, 39,303,599 people are elderly, which means that more than 71.9% of the people who are 65 years old or older are already vaccinated.

Generally, the most applied vaccine so far has been the one from the brand Pfizer-BioNTech, which has over 176,470,125 delivered doses in the U.S. and over 60,725,061 people already vaccinated.

Hospital Admissions

The need for hospital admissions has decreased in every group of age, especially in the group of people who are 70 years old or older. In January of 2021, there were almost 20 hospital admissions per every 100,000 people in that age group, in May 2021, there were only 4.

The age group of 18-29 years has been the most stable one regarding hospital admissions.

In general, there were around 120,000 hospitalized patients because of COVID-19 in January 2021, on May the 10th, 2021, there were less than 35,000 registered hospitalizations due to COVID.

Social Impact

All parks, recreational areas and outdoor sports fields are open to the public, with the safety recommendations of wearing a mask and staying at home if you suspect or have confirmation of being sick.

Most service offices are still closed to the public, although most or all of them are working through their call centers.

Most schools are still functioning through online classes, although everything seems to indicate that they will fully open in fall of this year.
